E.J. Dyce

Born in Clarksville, TN. in 1978, music began early for EJ. Starting with vocals and percussion instruments in elementary school, he soon moved on to the French Horn in the 6th grade and eventually discovered his love for the trumpet by the time he entered high school. One highlight of his high school days was participating in the official U.S Army Change of Command ceremony at Fort Campbell for the new commander of the famous 101st Screaming Eagles Airborne Division.

EJ continued marching to the beat of a different drummer with the Bluecoats Drum and Bugle Corp out of Canton, Ohio and found himself at Austin Peay State University shortly thereafter. He graduated from APSU in 2003 as a member of the Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Music Fraternity and with a Bachelor of Science in Music Education.

Many styles of music have shaped E.J.'s tastes and career. "You could say that I love all types of music, but especially JAZZ! Favorite artists: Clifford Brown, Bird, Diz, Blakey, Miles, Armstrong, Monk, Rollins, Young, Morgan, Hubbard, Mingus, Coltrane..."

Currently, EJ is employed at Spin City Music Store but finds a greater pleasure in his teaching position with the young trumpet students at Christian Brothers High School. EJ joined the venerable jamband, FreeWorld, in May of 2005 and is looking forward to spreading the mojo with them throughout the Southeastern U.S.

Throughout his career, EJ has been blessed and honored to play with a number of talented and dedicated performers and would like to thank and acknowledge their importance in his life:
Mundell Lowe, Lloyd Wells, Tatiana Andronikova, Anne Glass, Richard Steffen, David Steinquest, Dr. Solie Fott, Francis Massinon, The Nashville Symphony Chamber Chorus (with the APSU's Chamber Singers), Kenneth Schermerhorn (Igor Stravinsky's "Les Noces" 2002), Dr. George Mabry, Dr. Arvin Scott, Jack Coker, Dub Hudson, Chris Enghauser, John Winters, Syd Hedrick, Dan Eidem, Jeremy Middleton, Andy Rein, Jason Hutchinson, Jason Choate, Michael Roland, Chuck Brooks, Mark Frandsen, Mark Spain, Lee Koelz, John Scruggs, Holly Farris, Stan Lassiter, Doc Stone, Tim Murrel, John Radford, Doc Holiday, Andy Prieto, Syd Hedrick, Tom Nadeau, Skip Clark, Barry and Greg McGinnis, John Winters, Mark Spain, Bart Walker, Andy Brown, Roman Hankins, O.J.
