David Skypeck

Life for David began in Kansas City, Mo. on August 18, 1963, but the family moved south a few years later and by the age of 11, David realized that he was "Memphisly born in music". He discovered an old drum set in his attic and together with a couple friends, an exploration into his newfound love began.

By his junior year in high school, music had become a passion that eclipsed even his talent at sports. David gave up track and football to pursue music full time and after graduation, played with several local bands including the Moonlight Syncopators. The rich sounds of rhythm and blues, soul, jazz, Memphis Hip-Hop and drummers like Al Jackson Jr. and Howard Grimes had a heavy influence but it was after a 1985 gig with Busta Jones of the Talking Heads that David rededicated himself. In 1987, while working as the doorman at The South End, David was introduced to a new band named FreeWorld. A year later he was asked to drum for their spinoff band, Mosaic. In 1991 David became the anchor of a reunited FreeWorld and has kept their beat steady ever since.

David continues to be that anchor and over the last decade and a half he has also found time to jam with other local bands including Klaudia & Rico and Herman Green and the Green Machine. Touring throughout the Southeast and extensively in Europe has honed David's skills and created a consummate drummer who's love and talent for music can be felt at every performance.
